Discover the inspiring journey of SHRS - Safe Hands Rehabilitation Society
Our story at Safe Hands Rehabilitation Society (SHRS) is driven by a passion to make a difference in the
lives of specially abled children. These children, despite facing unique challenges, possess a special
talent and deserve the same opportunities for a healthy and fulfilling life.
Our NGO is dedicated
to raising the standard of living for this segment of the population, ensuring their inclusion in the
mainstream society.
Our Story
Safe Hands Rehabilitation Society (SHRS) was founded with a vision to create inclusive,
self-reliant communities where every individual—especially women and youth—has access to
opportunities for growth, dignity, and sustainable livelihoods.
Under the leadership of Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, SHRS has evolved into a dynamic organization
working at the intersection of health, education, and skill development. Recognizing
that real change requires more than awareness, SHRS adopted a social enterprise model
that not only addresses community challenges but also creates long-term economic
opportunities.
One of our flagship initiatives, the Sanitary Pad Production and Awareness Program,
reflects this approach. What began as an effort to tackle menstrual hygiene issues has
grown into a nationwide movement, with 12 production units established across India.
These units not only improve access to affordable sanitary products but also empower
women by providing them with skill training and livelihood opportunities.
At SHRS, we believe that empowerment is most effective when it is practical and
sustainable. Our work focuses on equipping individuals with real-world skills, raising
awareness in schools and communities, and building strong local networks that support
growth and independence. From training women in micro-enterprise development to engaging
youth in community welfare activities, every initiative is designed to create lasting
impact.
Our approach combines skill development, awareness campaigns, affordable product access,
and market linkages, enabling communities to build their own self-sustaining ecosystems.
This ensures that the benefits of our programs continue long after the initial
intervention.
Today, SHRS stands as a testament to the power of community-driven change—where hundreds
of women and girls have gained skills, confidence, and financial independence, and where
local communities are becoming active participants in their own development.
We believe that true transformation happens when people are not just supported, but
empowered with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to shape their own future.
